Families & Kids

We love our kids and view them as a vital part of our community. Children’s ministry isn’t an add-on; we see our kids as full recipients of the hope we receive through Christ and as participants in the story of God. At Defiance Church our hope is not in having the biggest and best kids ministry, but to equip each family to be a domestic church or monastery within their own home. While it would be easier to focus on creating a kids and youth ministry, we believe that the family is the vital disciple-making body alongside the church. For this reason, we turn to the book of Deuteronomy and it's description of what God has taught us:

Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

On a typical Sunday, we are excited to have kids and their parents sing together, pray together, and to hear the scriptures read aloud. During the sermon, we have a time for kids to have an age-appropriate lesson before returning to their parents during communion.
If you have questions or would like to know how we equip parents and families for discipleship email here.

Below you will find what we do offer for kids at the moment. As we continue to grow and change our hope is to create more avenues for kids and families to be discipled together. We'd love for you to join us no matter what age of children you have and help us craft a vision for the broader children's ministry of Defiance Church.

Defiance Nursery: 0 – 3 years old

Children age 3 and under can play or rest in the nursery with a parent.

Kids Church

We currently offer a preschool age Kids Church (ages 2-5). During the sermon, children are invited to the nursery for a lesson focused on specific stories from the bible.  Children will engage in a time of singing, scripture, reading, prayer, snacks, and play before being welcomed back to their families for communion.

Youth Coffee Hour

As we continue to grow with Jr. High and High School aged youth our goal is to offer a coffee hour a couple of times a month where they can sit with the pastor to discuss and work out the shape faith takes for their life circumstances.
